FictionDB

The Essential Fiction Reference

I belong to a romance book club that meets on the first Wednesday of the month at our local Barnes and Noble. What's great about our little club is that we don't just talk about one book. We all have very different tastes, but we love to talk about books.

We go around the circle and we tell everyone what we've read that month. We give a quick synopsis and whether we liked the book or not. Over the years I've learned whose taste is similar to mine and it's been a great way to find new authors.

I thought it might be fun to have a FictionDB book club too. You may find a few new books to read :)

I'll go first.

Bourne, Joanna The Spymaster's Lady
A great story with a great heroine. I'm not much of a Regency spy fan, but this one is definitely worth reading.

Bourne, Joanna Watkins Her Ladyship's Companion
This is Bourne's first book and was a decent read, but cannot compare to The Spymaster's Lady.

Cabot, Meg Princess Mia
A fun little romp in the Princess Diaries series

Cabot, Meg The Exterminator's Daughter in Prom Nights from Hell
A decent short story but not very memorable.

Meyer, Stephenie Hell on Earth in Prom Nights from Hell
This was a great short story. It had you wondering how it was going to end.

Carlyle, Liz No True Gentleman
This book had been highly rated on a bunch of review sites, but I found it just okay.

Harris, Charlaine Dracula Night in Many Bloody Returns
A quick Sookie Stackhouse story. Nothing special.

Kelly, Carla With This Ring
I liked this book but didn't love it. I always just expect so much from Carla Kelly that I am sometimes disappointed.

Layton, Edith The Cad
My first book by this author and I enjoyed it quite a bit. A little too much separation of the hero and heroine for me, but still a fun read.

Long, Julie Anne The Perils of Pleasure
An unusual premise and I didn't quite see the hero and heroine really being together at the end, but I still enjoyed the ride.

Potter, Alexandra Me and Mr. Darcy
Yck, yuck and more yuck. If you're going to write about Austen and particularly about Pride and Prejudice, you better have your facts straight and this author didn't.

Robb, J.D. Midnight in Death
Another quickie.

Thor, Brad The Lions of Lucerne
After finsihing all Vince Flynn's books, I need a new thriller writer and I think I found him in Brad Thor. A very good first book.

Willig, Lauren The Masque of the Black Tulip
I loved this book. The hero and heroine think they are helping find real spies, but they come to realize that they are just people, not larger-than-life spyhunters.
